The Alcona County Library is pleased to announce it has received a Summer Learning Grant from the Young Adult Library Service Association (YALSA) and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to purchase makerspace and robotic kits for the Library’s collection.  These kits include Magformers, Circuit Maze, Snap Circuits, Strawbees and Quirkbots, all which will be featured weekly on exploration tables at all Library branches during the summer.  All ages are invited to experience the Library’s Summer Reading theme, “Build a Better World,” by creating new structures and creatures with our new makerspace kits.  For more information on this and other Library services, please call 989-724-6796 or visit the web at

The Community Walking Club meets at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library at 8:30 a.m. every Thursday for a one or two mile walk around town, followed by coffee and snacks.  Everyone is invited to walk with the group (check with your health care professional to be sure you can walk 20 to 40 minutes on pavement).  Fitness with friends is fun!  No one walks alone; there are groups of slow, medium and speedy walkers.  The Community Walking Club meets every Thursday the Library is open, all year around.  It’s springtime in northern Michigan and that might mean rain (or snow) – we walk in any kind of weather except thunderstorms and ice storms.  So bring umbrellas and raincoats, if necessary!  For more information, call 989-724-6796.

Special Event:  Fresh Fruit Frenzy following the June 8 walk.  (That means that we celebrate the end of the walk with lots of fruit!)
