All Branches Closing Early 1/23/2018

Due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions, all branches of Alcona County Library will be closing at 5:00 pm tonight. Please stay safe!

**addendum: The Lincoln branch has closed for the day as of 2:15 pm.

Love to knit?  Join Helen, Eileen and other like-minded knitters to finish old projects, create new projects, or learn new stitches.  Helen will help new knitters knit a dishcloth.  Those who like to crochet are welcome, too!  Knitting Klub meets at the Harrisville branch on the first and third Tuesday at 1:15 p.m.; Knitting Klub at the Caledonia branch meets every Friday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Calling all Crafters!  Join the Library’s Free Range Craft for Adults which meets the first and third Thursdays of the month from 10 a.m. – noon at the Harrisville branch.  -- Start new crafts, finish old projects, bring ideas and questions for others in the group.  This is an opportunity for area crafters to meet and create projects during a designated time frame.  For more information, call Jan at 989-724-6796.

Adults are welcome to join us for the monthly “Get Crafty” session on the first Monday of the month at the Harrisville branch (second Monday during holiday weeks).  A craft or art project is offered for those who enjoy a new art experience.  We are honored to have local artists and crafters share their talents with us, and help us keep the costs down to a small materials & refreshment fee.  Must register for all events:  call 989-724-6796.

CHARITY PROJECT
MATS FOR THE HOMELESS--Monday, January 8, 2018, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
MORE DAYS SCHEDULED:  11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Mondays: January 22 & 20, & February 12!
The Alcona County Library invites the community to a New Year’s charity project to make “plarn” (plastic yarn) out of plastic grocery bags, which then will be crocheted into waterproof mats for the homeless.  This event will take place at the Harrisville branch on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Attendees will need to bring scissors to cut plastic bags into strips, which will then be rolled into balls of “plarn.”  Plastic bags supplied, but you are welcome to bring bags to increase the inventory.  Those who crochet may wish to bring a 10 mm crochet hook.  Sample mat is on display at the Harrisville branch.  Refreshments provided; no registration required.  For more information, call 989-724-6796.

Adults are invited to attend Color Craze on the first Friday of the month at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.  Dessert and beverages provided.  Coloring pages from books designed especially for adults as well as colored pencils and markers will be provided.  This FREE class meets the (usually) first Friday of every month; adults only, please.  For more information call 989-724-6796.

Alcona Book Club meetings run from 12:00 noon until 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.  Enjoy delicious desserts and beverages provided by the Friends of the Library or bring your lunch.  Everyone is invited to join our friendly and welcoming group (women and men) for lively and thought-provoking discussions.  Visitors always welcome!  No registration required.  We alternate fiction and non-fiction selections throughout the year.  For more information, call Lynn or Jan at 989-724-6796.
